The only occasional buzz one experiences in the mostly tranquil environ of the Athachi Farms is when the birds and bees, alongside the couple of peacocks and peahens which have made it their home, decide to have a song and dance with the visiting avian friends in celebration of mother nature’s generous gifts. On the evening of 8th March however, there was a different buzz as another high-flying visitor from a far-off place decided to touch down, and enjoy the quaint beauty of the farm.

Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, the IAS officer turned law-maker from Bhubaneswar, was more than delighted to experience the barren-land-turned-into-a-biodiverse-agroforest-farm firsthand. Dr. Vishwanath N Subramanian, the Managing Director of the Group, apprised her about the Trust Nature® initiative, a long-term vision evolved by the Athachi Group to re-empower nature with its regenerative potential, preserve and nurture the biodiverse ecosystem, foster a harmonious coexistence, help achieve sustainable farming, and address global challenges such as Climate Change.

Said Dr. Vishwanath, “Inspired by ancient Indian wisdom, we have combined time-tested cow-centric farming techniques such as Vedic Farming, Rishi Krishi, Vrikshayurveda etc. with modern sustainable practices including Dabholkar, Miyawaki, Pranic, Permaculture, Biodiverse, Biodynamic farming, and cutting-edge nature-friendly technologies. Our biodiverse agroforest farm in Palakkad is a testament to the success of our More Than Organic™ method.”

The group has now launched a Fellowship Program, which will inspire, guide and train university students to take up sustainable farming as a start-up idea, and create a new wave of entrepreneurship.

The MP showed keen interest in learning about the findings of the Palakkad Gap Research – a comprehensive explorative study initiated and fully funded by the Group – which have greater implications on the ecological and economic growth potential of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Research offers new perspectives and practical solutions to foster sustainable farm management practices, unlock new possibilities for agriculture including the development of innovative farming techniques, new export opportunities for agro produce, and promote the region as a Geo Heritage site with enormous possibilities of eco-tourism.
