Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Pontiff Jagadguru Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal Visits Athachi Farms
Rarely does a visit become more than a special occasion; this was truly a blessing. Athachi Farms was graced by the presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, the 70th Jagadguru Peethadhipathi of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Kanchipuram. As His Holiness walked its fields, the entire Athachi team received the morning with deep reverence and gratitude.
The Athachi Team shared with His Holiness their commitment to Rishi Krishi, the farming wisdom of the sages, rooted in the belief that cosmic energy sustains the life of the soil They also spoke about Vedic Farming, inspired directly by the Vedas and ancient treatises such as Krishi Parashara and Vrikshayurveda. Both traditions are founded on the same conviction: that soil, seed, and season are not resources to be extracted, but sacred partners to be nurtured. The team also expressed their resolve to carry these timeless principles beyond their fields—first across the nation, and, in time, to the world.
The Jagadguru was then introduced to the farm’s Herbal Garden, home to over a hundred native botanicals thriving under the unique Palakkad Gap microclimate—from the sacred Dasapushpam to the healing Nalpamaram quartet of ficus trees. Guided by Athachi’s Trust Nature® philosophy, this living archive quietly preserves the purity of its formulations. His Holiness appreciated the team’s dedication to safeguarding such rich botanical knowledge for generations to come.
The Athachi Team also had the privilege of sharing the vision behind the farm’s Nakshatra Vanam and Navagraha Vanam—sacred groves where ancient astral wisdom finds expression in living nature. The Nakshatra Vanam brings together the flora of all 27 Nakshatras, each tree and shrub carrying the essence of the constellation to which it is traditionally associated, while the Navagraha Vanam nurtures nine sacred plants aligned with the nine celestial bodies believed to govern balance and harmony in life. His Holiness was deeply moved by this offering, recognising in it the same reverence for the cosmos that has guided dharmic thought for centuries, and commended the team’s efforts to preserve this timeless wisdom.
His Holiness then visited Athachi Farms’ Smart Goshala, home to indigenous cattle, where he learnt how every cow is honoured and put to its highest purpose. Central to these efforts are Jeevamrutham and Panchgavya—natural formulations prepared from milk, ghee, curd, cow urine, and dung. Across the 20-acre estate, these living bio-stimulants enrich soil fertility, strengthen crop immunity, and sustain a thriving chemical-free ecosystem. He was also introduced to the young bulls of the farm, each revered in its own right. Their dung is transformed into Vibhuti, the sacred ash, through a process that culminates on Mahashivaratri. Every stage of its preparation becomes an act of devotion to the One Eternal, as worldly illusions fade away.
The Athachi Team also shared with His Holiness the Athachi Genome Pilot Project—a field gene bank preserving 47 varieties of indigenous rice collected from across India. He was deeply impressed by the vision, patience, and dedication behind this endeavour to safeguard every precious grain for future generations. The Jagadguru encouraged greater participation of youth and women in agriculture, a conviction Athachi already embodies through its largely women-led workforce. He also reviewed Athachi’s range of formulations and appreciated the team’s unwavering commitment to drawing from nature its purest offerings and presenting them to the world with authenticity, care, and integrity.
