The flowers of this plant, named Shankhpushpi, resemble the shape of a conch shell.. Descriptions of the plant trace back to the Acharya Charak, an Ayurvedic text from 200 BC.
All classical Ayurvedic texts categorize Shankhpushpi as a “Medhya,” or brain tonic. The sacred conch-shaped flower or shankha is used in ritual worship, especially for Lord Shiva.
Habitat
It is a perennial herbaceous plant with elliptic, obtuse leaves, growing as a vine or creeper.
Thriving in moist, neutral soil, its most striking feature is the vivid deep blue color of its solitary flowers with light yellow markings.
Endemic and native to the Indonesian island of Ternate, the plant flourishes in tropical climates with moderately drained neutral soil.
Phytochemistry
The plant contains a high concentration of naturally occurring polyphenols (Proanthocyanidin or condensed Tannis) and flavonoids, serving as potent antioxidants.
Specifically, proanthocyanidin stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin in the plant.
Nutritional Prowess
Ayurvedic medicine has used Shangupushpi for centuries as a memory enhancer, nootropic, antistress, anxiolytic, antidepressant, anticonvulsant, tranquilizing, and sedative agent.
It also helps with skin infections, thanks to its antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Glycoprotein secretions of the herb may show effect against various types of stomach ulcers.
It may have neuroprotective potential, indicating beneficial effects on mental functions.
Bluebellvine tea provides antioxidant protection. It is a healthy alternative to sugary drinks, easing stress and enhancing memory and brain health.
Dermatological Perks
Bluebellvine flower contains plant-based antioxidants and antioxidant vitamins such as Vitamins A, C, and E, improving the skin’s natural barrier.
It helps protect the body from irritants, including allergens and bacteria.
It may make the skin glow and help with acne or pimples, common issues in the teen years.
Bluebellvine flower contains many antioxidants like flavonoids, anthocyanins, and polyphenols, improving general skin health and elasticity.
It can soothe irritated skin, minimizing redness caused by acne, dryness, and general irritation. These nourishing properties are enhanced when combined with other nutrients benefiting skin health.
Bluebellvine flower can minimize skin discomfort and promote moisture retention. Daily moisture helps increase skin turnover, naturally restoring itself, and stopping dryness. Hydrated, moisturized skin is more likely to stay plump, radiant, and have a youthful appearance.
Supports collagen structure; collagen is the “scaffolding of our skin” and naturally declines with age. Bluebellvine flower extract has been found to assist with collagen production.
Follicular Fortification
Bluebellvine extract boosts hair growth, containing a potent bioflavonoid, anthocyanin, which increases blood flow in the scalp, strengthening hair follicles.
It is considered one of nature’s most effective ingredients for promoting hair growth and naturally darkening hair.
