Overview

  • Impatiens balsamina, commonly known as balsam, garden balsam, rose balsam, or spotted snapweed, is an endemic species native to India and Myanmar. These flowers bloom unexpectedly during the spring season.

Habitat

  • An annual plant reaching 20–75cm in height with a thick, soft stem.
  • Leaves are spirally arranged, 2.5–9 cm in length and 1–2.5 cm in width, with a deeply toothed margin.
  • Flowers come in pink, red, mauve, purple, lilac, or white, ranging from 2.5–5 cm in diameter.
  • Pollinated by bees, other insects, and nectar-feeding birds.
  • Ripe seed capsules undergo explosive dehiscence.
